The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested six suspected vandals accused of destroying public infrastructure and stealing valuable materials. The suspects were apprehended during a raid in the early hours of Monday following weeks of surveillance.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Wakil, the operation was carried out based on credible intelligence. “The suspects were caught in possession of stolen cables, transformers, and other items vandalized from public facilities,” Wakil stated.
The arrest comes amid rising cases of infrastructure vandalism in the state, which have disrupted electricity supply and caused significant economic losses. “These acts of sabotage are unacceptable and will not be tolerated,” Wakil added.
The suspects, whose identities have not been disclosed, are currently in police custody and will be charged to court soon. Items recovered during the raid include copper wires, metal scraps, and tools used in the vandalism.
Residents have commended the police for their swift action, urging stricter measures to deter future incidents. “This is a step in the right direction, but more needs to be done to protect public property,” said Mallam Ibrahim Musa, a local trader.
The Bauchi State Government has pledged to support security agencies in curbing vandalism. “We will ensure that those who sabotage public infrastructure face the full wrath of the law,” said Governor Bala Mohammed.
The police have called on citizens to report suspicious activities, emphasizing the importance of community collaboration in combating crime.
