The Lagos State House of Assembly is reportedly considering writing to President Bola Tinubu over allegations involving Speaker Mudashiru Obasa. Sources reveal that members of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) have raised concerns about Obasa’s leadership style and financial management.
The GAC, a powerful political body in Lagos, is said to have discussed the matter during a closed-door meeting last week. “There are issues that need urgent attention, and the President’s intervention may be required,” a GAC member disclosed anonymously.
Obasa, who has served as Speaker since 2015, has faced criticism over alleged mismanagement of funds and unilateral decision-making. Some lawmakers have accused him of sidelining dissenting voices and undermining the Assembly’s independence.
The planned letter to Tinubu is expected to outline these grievances and seek his guidance on resolving the crisis. “This is not about witch-hunting but ensuring accountability and transparency,” another source within the Assembly stated.
Obasa has denied the allegations, describing them as politically motivated. “I remain committed to serving Lagosians and upholding the principles of democracy,” he said in a recent statement.
Political analysts believe the move could deepen divisions within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos. “This is a test of Tinubu’s influence and ability to manage internal party conflicts,” said Dr. Femi Adeyemi, a political scientist.
The Lagos Assembly has yet to confirm when the letter will be sent or if it will be made public. Stakeholders are urging all parties to prioritize the state’s interests over personal grievances.
