The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 31-year-old man, identified as Tunde Oladipo, for allegedly breaking into homes and stealing valuables in the Ifo area of the state. The suspect was apprehended in the early hours of Monday following a tip-off from vigilant residents who noticed suspicious movements around their neighborhood.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, Oladipo was caught red-handed while attempting to burgle a house on Adeola Street. “The suspect was found with a bag containing stolen items, including jewelry, electronics, and cash. He has confessed to being involved in several burglaries in the area over the past few months,” Odutola stated.
Residents of the community expressed relief over the arrest, noting that the area had recently experienced a spike in burglary cases. “We’ve been living in fear for weeks now. It’s a relief to know that the police have finally caught one of the culprits,” said Mrs. Funke Adeyemi, a resident whose home was reportedly targeted by the suspect.
The police have launched a manhunt for other members of the burglary ring believed to be operating in the area. “We are working tirelessly to ensure that all those involved in these criminal activities are brought to justice. We urge residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities,” Odutola added.
Oladipo is currently in police custody and is expected to be charged to court soon. The arrest has been hailed as a significant breakthrough in the fight against crime in Ogun State, with many calling for increased security measures to prevent future incidents.
As investigations continue, the police have advised residents to install security cameras and reinforce their doors and windows to deter burglars.
